To My Mom on Mother’s Day

by Nakisha Wynn

Hey girl,

I hope you are enjoying your Mother’s Day. I just wanted to take a moment to say Thank you. Thank you for being the woman that you are and an amazing mother to me.

You always have other people’s best interest at heart and would give your last to your enemy; #Goals LOL. But that’s what I love about you. You always want to do what’s right and do what’s pleasing in God’s sight.

Just like you have always told me: “You give up the right, for the wrong.” and “You are not responsible for how people treat you, but you are responsible for how you react.” I now understand that.

When I finally caught that revelation life changed for the better. Now I can handle myself differently, which gives me a peace I have never known.

The other day I was doing the math on signing the kids up for soccer. I was kinda surprised at the cost.

I remember dancing and cheering since I was about 5 years old. I think back to how much that had to cost for me and Stephanie to do that every year. Girl, you made that money work huni. But I’m glad you did.

I want you to know that every sacrifice you made, every decision to put us first, and every dream you put on hold did not go unnoticed

I thank you for choosing your kids first. Because of your dedication to us I now understand what being a mother is.

It’s not about all the things you can give your kids, or even about always having them like you. It’s about being present in their lives, giving them all the good you have to offer, and helping them grow to be the best possible human beings they can be.

I have adopted this. I am a mother first, then everything else finds its place.

I also want you to know that you are worthy of every blessing God has for you. You are just as good as anybody else to walk fully in your gifts. Don’t be afraid to be bold, stand tall and own it! Own who you are, every ounce of it. Know that you can do anything you put your mind to and it’s never too late to pursue your dreams because with God all things are possible.
