Mom guilt is one of those things that most moms have experienced. At some point over your child-raising years, you’re sure to feel bad about something. Whether it’s about working outside of the home, your kid getting hurt or allowing more screen time to the kids than you should. Most moms can relate and want to overcome working mom guilt.

We’ve all been there. Mom guilt can be triggered by many things. For some, it could be insecurities, anxiety, or pressure from family and friends to parent in a certain way. And along with that guilt can come symptoms.

You may feel anxious and find yourself overthinking things or worried about all of life’s what-ifs and should-haves. But don’t worry because mom guilt is completely natural. It’s not a fun to experience, so I wanted to share some tips to help you overcome your feelings.

5 Tips to Overcome Working Mom Guilt

Make Your Own Rules

Don’t allow outsiders to make you question your parenting style. You know your kids and you have the right to parent them as you see fit. As their mother you are the one that knows best.

Be confident with your own rules within your home and don’t let anyone else make you feel like you’re not doing good enough. Every mom does the best they can with the resources they have and that’s perfectly okay.

Take Mom Breaks

Sometimes mom guilt sneaks in because you’re so stressed out and at your limit with everything. Being an adult is hard enough without adding motherhood into the mix. Start allowing yourself to take mom breaks once a week, or more if needed.

Use this time to do something you enjoy, or relax with a good book and a warm bath. Reducing your stress level will help curb those anxious mom guilt moments so you can continue feeling great about how you’re doing as a woman and a mom.

Curb Negative Self-Talk

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. Negative self-talk and self-doubt play a huge role in why we feel mom guilt. Even the most confident moms have moments where they doubt their decisions.

Do your best to curb negative self-talk as soon as it enters your mind. You can do this by instantly reaffirming the negative thought with a positive thought and carrying on with your daily routine.

Use Alarm Reminders

Sometimes we feel mom guilt because of schedule conflicts and mishaps. Missing school events or picking the kid’s up late can be unfortunate, but they happen. I highly suggest using alarm reminders to keep up with important moment and avoid the mom guilt that comes with that.

You can use your smartphone’s alarm clock as a reminder alert whenever you’re about to have a busy day. This will help you remember everything and never be late for important moments.

Be Present and Connect

Lastly, one of the best ways to overcome mom guilt during busy weeks of juggling a career, the household, and kids is to find time to be present and connect. Set aside a half-hour each day to sit down with your kids and listen to them.

You can use this time to have random conversations, play a game, or whatever your kids want to do. During this time you’ll refrain from using your smartphone and you’ll keep your focus on your kids as a means to connect with them and start to feel more confident about how awesome of a mom you are.

Take pride in the fact that you can juggle the duties of motherhood with a career. Remember that you’re doing the best you can and that your kids will be learning good work ethics by watching you be the best mother possible while providing them with everything that they need.

Implementing these tips to overcome working mom guilt will encourage you to embrace your decision to be a working mom and allow you to end the weight-bearing feeling of mom guilt.

I have had some amazing opportunities, worked with my favorite brands, and attended some awesome events...and I’m just getting started!
